May 16 was the big work day to weed the aisles and put down mulch before the Neighborhoods USA! tour.
You may have heard that Westbury is a finalist for neighborhood of the year. Westbury Community Garden and Willow Water Hole are two big reason why Westbury is among the finalists, not to mention our strong civic club, award-winning neighborhood newsletter, well-maintained, 50-60 year old homes and green initiatives.
More than 20 volunteers came out on Saturday morning and moved almost the whole 18 yard mountain of mulch into the weed-free aisles. Gardeners came and went for 6 hours and the progress was steady. Half way through, we took a lunch break with fried chicken, hot dogs, chips, salads, fruit and baked goods.
A big thank you to everyone who came out and to those who brought food to share. What a great team!!
