For February Work Day we expected to have a delivery of 12 cu. yards of soil and 225 bags of compost for the garden. Due to equipment problems, the Farm Dirt Company was only able to deliver 6 cu. yards and had to delay the bagged compost for a week.
Luckily, we had over 20 volunteers, some expected and some surprises. The Jaycees have promised to volunteer at the garden on a monthly basis. Seven members were able to work. KIPP Mosiac near to us had two members who helped work on the apiary garden sifting soil and adding it to the beds.
An unexpected number of students came from Fort Bend schools to earn volunteer hours. I think we had 6. And some individuals who occasionally volunteer were with us.
Ray and Gary made use of everyone and moved the whole delivery of soil to the gardens. Some gardens were weeded just before they received soil. All the aisles were weeded. This was not only volunteer work but also work by the huge number of gardeners who were also on hand to get spring gardens ready for planting.
