Westbury Civic Club President (and WCG co-founder), Becky Edmondson, presented the story of Westbury Community Garden and won Neighborhood of the Year at the Neighborhoods USA! conference held at the Hyatt Regency Houston downtown last week.
The national conference had four finalists in each of three categories
1) Physical Revitalization / Beautification in a Single Neighborhood, 2) Social Revitalization / Neighborliness in a Single Neighborhood and 3) Multi-Neighborhood Partnership Projects. Westbury was entered in the Physical Revitalization category. The judging was based on the extent of innovation, grass-roots participation and capacity building exhibited by the nominated organization.
After the day’s events a busload of convention-goers came out to tour WCG. Several gardeners walked with the tour group and answered questions about the garden. One person commented that it was the best tour she had ever been on in her many years of NUSA conferences.
Westbury Community Garden is proud to be considered such a neighborhood asset. Thank you Becky for presenting our story!
