Great opportunity for the beginning gardener and experienced gardener alike. This class will teach basics of gardening and tricks to great production as lead by gardening experts Ray Sher and Gary Edmondson. You will learn about best tasting and most productive veggie varieties to grow, fertilization, composting, pest management, watering techniques, weed control and more. Lots of time for questions. Experienced Westbury Community Gardeners will share their knowledge and wisdom to help make you a better gardener.
Our Instructors
Gary is a long time organic gardener. Early on at Urban Harvest, he was the Community Garden Director for 12 years and helped develop many community gardens throughout the Houston area. Following that, he was the Urban Harvest Education Director where he developed and taught many organic gardening classes, as well as designed and implemented an education program that included over 100 classes per year. He teaches numerous organic gardening classes including Growing Organic Vegetables, an in-depth 5 month gardening class, He also was one of the trainers for Plant It Forward Farms farmers.
Ray is also a long time organic gardener, who has regularly taught gardening and permaculture classes for over 30 years. Ray established the Urban Harvest fruit tree sale, and was the coordinator of the sale for many years. For 12 years, he was a market gardener selling vegetables and fruit from his large home garden. He helped start Plant It Forward Farms and taught the farmers organic farming techniques for four years. Ray was one of the founders and designers of the Westbury Community Garden.
