Dear WCG members,
Diana, Bert, Marty and Cindy enjoy the WCG 5th Birthday celebration.
We are so glad we decided to join this growing (literally and figuratively) organization! We have found so many helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and generous Westbury residents through the 2 1/2 years we’ve been members. What a great discovery for us. It really does give both Bert and me a better sense of community (been in Westbury since 2002). Not only that, it is such a comforting feeling to know there are people close by who are kind and decent.
We have come to appreciate the wonderful flavor of home grown veggies. We are eating more vegetables, which are far more nutritious than store bought. For example, Swiss chard, arugula, broccoli, spinach and even kale are great additions to our meals.
WCG’s first accessible bed was built in the spring of 2014.
Also, we are healthier working outdoors and tending our garden. Even though our muscles and joints ache more and more each year, we do more exercise there than we would otherwise–which leads me to the newly built waist-high section of our ‘raised’ bed. It is so much easier and less painful to cultivate it!
We sincerely appreciate the effort and expense spent to construct it, for arthritis, scoliosis, osteoporosis, and fibromyalgia limit my movements more each year.
Hopefully more of this kind of bed will be built for more of us with restricted abilities or advancing years.
