We had an energetic bunch of students from Sharpstown International School National Honor Society and several individuals who signed up for Community Service Day on Saturday, February 22. It was a beautiful, clear, cool morning and a very productive day of service!
A group of students worked in compost production Area A with the Compost Manager. Finished compost was shoveled into pails and delivered to gardens. A few beds which had low soil levels were topped up with good rich compost. The content of each compost bin was rotated to the next bin, aerating and mixing as it was moved. New leaves were placed Bin 1.
A group of young men and some WCG members cleaned up the debris and tall grass around the soil/mulch delivery area and the tree farm. These areas look nice and neat now.
Students began filling the heavy trash roll-off bin and we will continue to fill it with the help of a front end loader so it can be picked up on Monday.
Other groups weeded under the pavilion and filled bags of Microlife.
One of the Martin houses got some needed repairs.
Retaining boards were cut to fit the compost bins. One shed door latch was repaired after a break-in and theft the night before and the other is secured with a heavy chain and combo lock but still needs repairs.
Many other tasks were done by gardeners who pitched in where needed.
Thanks to all our volunteers and garden members who came out and helped accomplish a long list of tasks! Many hands make light work!
