The Magical Sunflower Maze At Westbury Community Garden faced several challenges in its inaugural year.
For the 2022 season, the Sunflower Committee is getting an early start to address soil fertility, irrigation, and weed issues that hampered the project last summer. We hope to have a bumper crop of sunflowers in the maze with fewer weeds and we look forward to an earlier maturity time in May.
Work has begun to mix good garden soil and several amendments into the native clay. Soon the weed block will be pinned down and the walkways will be mulched with shredded wood donated by Bartlett Tree Experts. Planting will begin around March first.
