Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast

On July 9, a breakfast on the grounds was hosted at Westbury Community Garden to honor the many volunteers that have helped us keep the garden moving forward during the trying times of the COVID pandemic.

WCG Co-founder and WAIC President, Becky Edmondson, and Bellaire High School teacher and National Honor Society advisor, Jennifer Kuhleman

The breakfast featured a luscious fruit salad, pastries, and breads from a generous H-E-B donation, bagels and coffee from Panera Bread (West University Cafe), and breakfast tacos from Best Donuts donated by WAIC/WCG Treasurer, Marcia Hartman. Garden members also brought coffee cake and herbal teas.

Many 2021-22 volunteer groups were acknowledged by WCG President, Wayne Slaikeu.

Garden co-founder and WAIC President, Becky Edmondson, read a quote from author Louise Erdrich’s novel, The Sentence, that aptly describes what a special place Westbury Community Garden is to the Westbury community. “It was more than a place, it was a nexus, a mission, a work of art, a calling, a sacred craziness, a slice of eccentricity, a collection of good people who shifted and rearranged but cared deeply about the same one thing…”
