At 9:00 AM on Friday, December 11, Bill Davenport’s 7-foot high sculpture, Big Cabbage, will be loaded onto a flatbed truck in the 900 block of Heights Blvd. where it has been delighting onlookers for the past year. Big Cabbage and 8 other sculptures share the Heights Blvd. space. The time has come for a new piece to be rotated in and artist Bill Davenport has chosen Westbury Community Garden as the new permanent home for the giant concrete polymer vegetable. Westbury Community Garden is thrilled to receive this whimsical, fun piece of public art.
Sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 AM on that Friday, the crane truck is expected to arrive at Westbury Community Garden where it will lower the Big Cabbage onto its new spot on Dunlap Street near the Fonmeadow intersection. There will be cabbage recipes to share and Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Martha Castex-Tatum has been invited to speak at the celebration.
Garden members, the public, and the media are invited to witness the installation. Harris County recommendations for masks and safe distance apply.
