New Herb Committee – Sign Up Now!

A new committee has been added to the maintenance working groups of Westbury Community Garden – Herbs!

Westbury Community Garden has long had two garden plots (C2 and D2) dedicated to growing and learning about medicinal and culinary herbs. In a recent reorganization, the garden is making work on the Herb beds an eligible maintenance task for volunteer hours.

Herbs chairman, Julie Fordes, organizes short (2 hours at most) herb work twice a month where volunteers from both Westbury Community Garden and the Herb Society’s South Texas Unit (STU) work together to plant, weed, and water the herb beds and maintain the surrounding aisles. During the work day there is plenty of casual conversation about herbs and their uses and Julie plans to introduce more formal herb classes several times a year. The partnership with the Herb Society brings a wealth of expertise about all things herbal.

Members of the Herb Committee will also schedule watering the herb beds.

If you’d like to learn more about What, When, and How to use herbs from the WCG Herb beds, please sign up for the Herb Committee at herbs@westburycommunitygarden.org and you’ll receive emails about Herbal Happenings.
